Africa-Press – Angola. Huambo’s Vice-Governor for Technical Services and Infrastructure, Edgar Hilário, called on churches to participate in the cervical cancer vaccination campaign, designed by the Executive for the well-being of girls, this Sunday.
Health authorities in Huambo province plan to vaccinate 170,409 girls aged nine to 12 against the disease from the 27th of this month to November 7th.
He was speaking at a service marking the 37th anniversary of the institutionalization of the United Methodist Church in Angola district in Huambo province, noting that the Angolan government is concerned about the well-being of children.He emphasized that the government of the province of Huambo intends to continue relying on the United Methodist Church and other religious institutions to spread the nation’s noblest values.
Edgar Hilário also called for the church to be a vehicle for preserving public assets, as the Executive has invested in all spheres of society.
Regarding the 37th anniversary of the founding of the district of Huambo province, he said that the United Methodist Church in Angola is a special religious institution, as its history is intertwined with the history of the country, through its participation in the formation of “valuable” children for the nation.
In turn, Pastor Euclides dos Santos, District Superintendent of the United Methodist Church in Angola in Huambo Province, reaffirmed the religious institution’s willingness to collaborate with the local government on social initiatives for the essential well-being of its citizens.
Regarding the district in Huambo Province, he noted 37 years of mission, work, and evangelization, in addition to the challenge of building infrastructure in the social sector, such as education and healthcare, to address the country’s challenges at a time when the government alone cannot do everything.
The district of the United Methodist Church in Angola in Huambo Province, currently with seven temples, communities, and chapels, was institutionalized on October 18, 1988.
