Africa-Press – Angola. The Government projects, for the 2023-2027 cycle, a contribution of the oil sector to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of around 20 percent, against the current 28 percent, which is already an indicator below the weight of 42 percent recorded. in 2011.

The Minister of Economy and Planning, Mário Caetano João, considers this a difficult but encouraging path through which the Angolan economy is going.

“This is the path of economic diversification in Angola, where the agribusiness sector (vegetable and animal production value chain) has been the engine”, wrote the minister on the social network Linkdin.

Mário Caetano João details that in 2011, the oil sector was responsible for 42 percent of our Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and 10 years later, the oil sector contributed with 28 percent. And the next National Development Plan 2023-2027 will be developing and promoting actions so that the contribution of the oil sector is around 20 percent.

In the communication, the minister asks: will it be different for future years? I don’t believe it, answer.

“Agribusiness, with the Government’s desire to position Angola among the largest African producers in grain production, especially maize, rice, wheat and soy, will be the major determinant of growth in our economy,” he said.

For this, he adds, until 2027, the private sector will have available US$500 million per year via the Angola Development Bank (BDA) for the production of these grains, as well as the establishment of logistics centers, and another US$500 million in investment public for the subdivision and access roads to the land for cultivation.

According to the minister who runs the Program for Supporting Production, Diversification of Exports and Substitution of Imports (PRODESI), with the production of maize and soy on a large scale, the ingredients for animal feed will be available. So, additionally, another 300 million dollars will be made available for livestock and another 300 million dollars for fisheries, including agriculture.

“This is the commitment of the Government of Angola to the employability, food and social security and well-being of the population. There are indeed many challenges ahead, this we have to recognize, but we have to be agile enough and capable of changing the tire with the car in motion. Forward is the way”, he concludes.
