Africa-Press – Angola. The production of sweets in the country gained new impetus, with the production of 15 tonnes a day of chewing gum, candies and sambapitos, by a factory located in the Special Economic Zone (ZEE), Luanda-Bengo, in the country’s capital.

Inaugurated yesterday by the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Victor Fernandes, the Candy Factory Angola factory is the result of the Privatization Program (PROPRIV), following a tender.

The factory has an installed capacity of over 6,700 tons per year, thus guaranteeing almost 40 percent of national consumption, resulting from an investment of over 15 billion kwanzas.

The Minister of Industry and Commerce said, on the occasion, that with the start-up of the factory, the country will experience a natural reduction in imports of chewing gum, sweets and sambapitos, given the increase in domestic supply. According to the Minister of Industry and Commerce, the opening of the factory responds to Prodesi’s aims, which results in support and increase in national production, diversification and increase in exports, reduction and substitution of imports. “Our presence is a sign for foreign investors to establish themselves as investors, as the Executive is committed to creating and making available a set of mechanisms for the investment to succeed”.

Mixed Technologies

The unit, which has been producing chewing gum, candies and sambapitos branded “OKO” for two weeks, uses German, Dutch and French technology in its three production lines.

The investment has so far created 90 direct and indirect jobs, with the prospect of generating 350 over a two-year period.

National workers, for the most part, are benefiting from the experiences of Indian technicians involved in the project, in order to maintain the scale and quality of production.

The factory is the result of a partnership between two distribution agents in Angola, the French-Angolan Coconuts and Oxbow, and the Serbian Nelt.

Quality Seal

Federico Crespo, shareholder and general manager of the factory, said that the sweets are produced based on internationally demanded quality standards, using sophisticated and internationally recognized equipment, branded by Hansel and Theegarten, from Germany, GEA (Netherlands) and Proform. (France).

According to Federico Crespo, the raw material is acquired locally and abroad, in countries like Italy and Brazil.

For Nebojsa Saponjic, who is a shareholder and co-founder of the Nelt group, it is intended, in a first phase, to conquer the market, starting with the provinces with the highest concentration of people.
