Africa-Press – Angola. The ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway to Angola, Bjonar Dahl Hotvedt, said on Wednesday in Lubango that his country would like to partner Angola in the fields of tourism and food imports.
Speaking at a meeting with the province of Huíla’s govenor, Nuno Mahapi, during a joint mission with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the diplomat stated that despite the extensive cooperation in several areas with Angola, Norway also has other economic interests.
He said that Norway is a food importing country because it has a “complicated climate”, a territory where only 3% is arable, making extensive food production difficult.
“We import our needs in terms of fruits, meats, vegetables and other foods from there. And here I see a possible partnership in the future, because Angola is known worldwide for its fertile lands, abundant water and the province of Huíla is no exception to this logic”, the diplomat said.
Bjonar Dahl Hotvedt highlighted that bilateral relations with Angola are based on trade and economics, and highlighted the existence of “excellent” collaboration in the production and export of oil and natural gas.
He continued that in the Angolan oil sector, there are a considerable number of Norwegian companies that operate and transfer skills and technology, contributing to extending the life of Angolan oil production.
He also highlighted the Angola head of State’s commitment to opening an Angolan embassy in Oslo, an institution that has been operational since 2024, an important partner in strengthening cooperation between the two countries.
In turn, Nuno Mahapi, praised the diplomat’s visit, which allows for the establishment of “strong” partnerships to jointly seek solutions, and the province is open to such a process.
The Norwegian Embassy in Angola was established in 1998. Development cooperation in Angola through the Embassy focuses largely on the area of human rights, and the main objective of the Embassy is to promote Norwegian economic and political interests in Angola.
