Africa-Press – Angola. The 2nd secretary of the MPLA in Cuando Cubango, João Yambo Miguel, challenged Wednesday, the local secretariat of the Angolan Women’s Organization (OMA) to build new literacy schools in the remaining municipalities, to reduce the phenomenon in this class feminine.

The politician was speaking at the celebration of the 10th of January, which marks the organization’s 62 years of existence, having identified as its main goal the reduction of the illiteracy rate within communities, after the inauguration, in December 2023, of the first school “Joaquina Litchone” literacy program at OMA.

Other objectives, with the entry into operation of the aforementioned schools, according to the political leader, relate to the need to educate young people and adults in ways that develop autonomy and a sense of responsibility for people and communities.

Likewise, strengthen the capacity to deal with the transformations that occur in the economy, culture and society, as schools could become the mechanism for reducing poverty and developing Angola.

João Yambo Miguel highlights that schools will promote coexistence, tolerance and the creative and critical participation of citizens in their communities, for whom, therefore, women must increasingly embrace academic and professional technical training.

She also advised women to promote awareness talks against early pregnancy and domestic violence, so that, in fact, the birth of an aggressive and unstructured society can be avoided.

It also challenged the OMA to ensure the continued promotion of gender equality and equity in decision-making bodies, triggering actions for their full integration into the political, economic, scientific and professional life of the country, to increase their number in political positions and administrative.

On the occasion, the 2nd secretary highlighted the OMA’s performance in the fight against Portuguese colonialism and the consequent achievement of National Independence, on November 11, 1975, having recognized that, after 62 years of existence, this organization has consolidated itself in efforts to maintain of peace, unity and reconciliation among Angolans.

João Yambo Miguel urged the OMA to contribute to the arduous task of strengthening the organization’s ranks, ensuring, this time, the permanent mobilization, awareness, effectiveness and motivation of militants, friends and supporters at the province level.

He argued that improving methods of organization, mobilization and functioning of party structures constitute fundamental elements in the execution of party work and allows daily tasks to be implemented with efficiency, effectiveness and quality by MPLA militants, especially by women in the communities where they are located. inserted.

Finally, the politician recognized OMA’s engagement in the process of permanent organization of basic structures, in compliance with the directive on holding assemblies to review and renew mandates, the local results of which are encouraging.
