Africa-Press – Angola. Angola’s Ombudsman, Florbela Araújo, called on Thursday (4) in El Salvador for unity among ombudspersons to guarantee the human rights’ universality.
Florbela Araújo was speaking at the first Global Summit on Human Rights, which has been taking place since Tuesday (02) of the current month, under the theme “Defending the Environment in the Digital Age.”
As president of the Africa Ombudsman and Mediators Association (AOMA), Florbela Araújo advocated for the sharing of experiences and the renewal of commitments, emphasizing the importance of addressing the challenges related to environmental justice, digital protection, and the defense of vulnerable groups.
During the proceedings, she held meetings with representatives of international organizations, where she highlighted Angola’s role in the global debate on the rights, freedoms, and guarantees of citizens in the 21st century.
Opening statements were made by senior officials of the Ombudsman’s Office, as well as by the Vice President of the Republic of El Salvador, Félix Ulloa Hijo.
Also speaking were the President of the Latin American Ombudsman Institute (ILO), Amélia López; the Head of the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission and Secretary of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI); the President of the Council of National Human Rights Institutions of Central America and the Dominican Republic, José Alejandro Córdova; and the President of the National Human Rights Council and GANHRI, Amina Bouayach.
The summit continues with debates, thematic panels, and the preparation of a joint final declaration.
