Africa-Press – Angola. Fifty-four delegations, out of the 76 expected and headed by heads of government, have already confirmed their presence at the 7th African Union-European Union (AU-EU) Summit, which will take place in Luanda from the 24th to the 25th of this month.
This information was given to the press on Wednesday by the Summit spokesperson, Jorge Cardoso, at the end of a meeting promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIREX) with representatives of African and European diplomatic missions accredited in the country, to provide detailed information on the preparation of the event, without giving details about the confirmed delegations.
He said that participation is expected from regional organizations, specialized agencies of the United Nations and the European Union, totaling up to 100 delegations, as the event aims to celebrate 25 years of partnership between the two continents.
He pointed out that the information provided will facilitate the work in welcoming, hosting, security, transportation and other aspects inherent to the delegations arriving in the country for this purpose.
He added that, on the 23rd, there will be a meeting of senior officials from both organizations (AU-EU) to prepare the final documents that the Summit will consider.
He further stated that a forum for youth and civil society organizations is planned for the 20th and 21st, with the objective of allowing these actors to discuss their priorities in various areas, which should ultimately be included in the Luanda Declaration, to be adopted on the 25th by the Summit.
The meeting will be co-chaired by the Presidents of the European Council, João Lourenço, and the European Commission, António Costa, respectively, at a significant moment, with Angola holding the rotating presidency of the AU.
The Summit will deepen cooperation in key areas such as peace and security, economic integration, trade, multilateralism, green growth, digitalization, migration, mobility, and human development.
Established in 2000 during the first Africa-EU Summit in Cairo, this partnership has strengthened economic, cultural, and political ties between the two continents.
