Africa-Press – Angola. Members of the 7th Committee of the National Assembly on Thursday in Luanda, considered the need for greater investment in the state owned media, including staff training.
The MPs conducted consultation visits to the Journalist Training Center (CEFOJOR) and TV Zimbo station, following a visit that already included the Ministry of Telecommunications, Information Technology and Media, public press company Edições Novembro and the Anibal de Melo Press Center (CIAM).
Speaking to the press interview, the vice-president of the aforementioned committee, Elisandra Gourgel, highlighted the resilience of media managers in the face of the sector’s cross-sector financial challenges, taking into account budgetary constraints.
She made it clear that without adequate training and development of human capital, it is impossible to guarantee quality information.
“We recognize that there is a lack of investment. Training good journalists requires not only will, but also resources and policies that sustain quality”, she said.
In this regard, he stated that the training centers in Luanda and Huambo have technical capabilities, but lack consistent resources to allow them to explore their full potential.
To this end, Elisandra Gourgel reiterated her defense in the parliamentary debates on the General State Budget for 2026, scheduled for November of this year, with the aim of ensuring that media professionals fully fulfill their democratic and educational role.
The 7th Parliamentary Committee focuses on issues related to Media, Culture, Youth and Sports, and is chaired by Deputy Paulo Faria.
