The director of Prison Services in Cuanza Norte, Luís da Costa Dias, reiterated, Friday, in Ndalatando, the institution’s commitment to technical-professional and academic training of the local penal population, with a view to the humanization and social reintegration of inmates .
Luís Dias, who was speaking at the closing act of the 2022/2023 school year, at the Ndalatando prison, said that the institution is focused on the humanization of inmates, through the promotion of arts and crafts courses, as well as raising the academic level of the same.
He highlighted the support provided by the Provincial Education Office in this regard, by ensuring the teaching process in the establishment.
The official pointed out that most of the prison’s criminal population is young, which reinforces the institution’s commitment to the academic and professional training of inmates.
The aim, he continued, is to provide them with knowledge and technical-professional skills to facilitate their social reintegration.
He informed that, in the academic year 2022/2023, 106 inmates were enrolled in the institution, who attended 10th grade literacy classes, with positive results.
The institution intends to enroll, in the academic year 2023/2024, 180 inmates from initiation to 10th grade.
Classes will take place simultaneously with professional training in the areas of carpentry, electricity, masonry, mechanics, cutting and sewing.
Currently, the prison establishment in Comarca do Cuanza Norte, with a capacity for 250 inmates, has a prison population of 457 inmates, of which 300 are convicted.
