Africa-Press – Angola. Petro de Luanda and Santa Rita de Cássia do Uíge play today at 4:00 pm at the 11 de Novembro National Stadium, a match valid for the eighth round of the National First Division Football Championship.
The match pits the leader against the 13th placed team in the competition.
The hosts are looking for their seventh consecutive victory in the current Championship, against a team that has won only once, drawn three and lost the same number of games. The team led by Ricardo Chéu ended the micro-cycle of preparation yesterday, with corrections of mistakes made in the previous round against Kabuscorp do Palanca.
Without any major concerns in the Clinical Department, the Tricolor team aims to win three more points and strengthen its lead in the competition. The Tricolor team’s objective is just one: to remain unbeaten.
Santa Rita de Cássia have gone three games without a win. In the last one, they shared points at home, against FC Bravos do Maquis. The “Catholics” know that they will face the Girabola bogeymen, however, they believe in a good result, although they know that the task is Herculean.
In fact, any result other than a victory against Uíge would be seen as a failure within the three-time national champions. For this reason, the message of victory was conveyed several times by the coaching staff to the players during the preparation week.
This will be the 14th duel between the two teams. The team from Petropolis has the advantage. They have won 12, lost one and there are no draws on record. The difference also extends to the quality of the squads and budgets. The team from Catetão is superior in every aspect.
Other games
The Petro de Luanda – Santa Rita de Cássia duel is not the only one scheduled for today. FC Bravos do Maquis will face Recreativo do Libolo at 3:00 pm at the Mundunduleno Stadium in Luena, with the aim of halting the good moment of the Cuanza-Sul team.
At the same time, at the 4 de Janeiro Stadium, in the city of Uíge, Carmona Sport Clube will host 1.° de Agosto, a game in which the military are favourites to take the three points. Boosted by the 3-1 victory over Sagrada Esperança from Lunda-Norte in the last round, Filipe Nzanza’s team knows that underestimating the opponent can be fatal. In fact, as happened in the sixth round, against Luanda City, in which they lost by one goal to nil.
GD Isaac de Benguela will face Desportivo da Lunda-Sul at 3pm at São Filipe, with the aim of achieving a full victory with Agostinho Tramagal in charge. This will not be an easy task, as the Lunda team seems to have woken up from its deep sleep.
Sagrada Esperança, defeated in the previous challenge by 1.o de Agosto (1-3), will host Luanda City at 3:30 pm in Dundo. The diamond miners are favorites, but they must show this on the field so as not to be surprised by the “citizens” as happened to the military.
