Africa-Press – Angola. Sixty-two thousand 805 crimes of a diverse nature, corresponding to a decrease of 2.7 percent, were registered from January to November 2023 by the National Police, reported this Thursday, in Luanda, the Minister of the Interior, Eugênio Laborinho.
According to the government official who spoke at the end-of-year celebration ceremony, he said that they resulted in the arrest of 43 thousand 963 alleged perpetrators, with 64 percent of the crimes being solved.
He also added that of the total number of violent crimes, 71 percent were committed by people close to the victims, which calls for greater attention and collaboration from families and society in general, highlighting that the exponential increase in of computer crimes, mainly those that jeopardize people’s honor and good name, fraud, the enticement of minors and others”.
On the occasion, Eugênio Laborinho reported that in addition to these crimes, thirteen thousand 597 road accidents were recorded.
The government official said that the statistics referenced above lead us to consider that the public security situation in the country is stable, calm and under the control of the authorities.
“Despite the financial constraints, it was possible to guarantee public safety and order throughout the national territory, acquire rolling stock, equipment and carry out some structuring projects to improve the working and social conditions of employees, thanks to the effort, spirit of unity, dedication, selflessness and readiness of the staff of the Ministry of the Interior”, he stated.
The sector expects to continue strengthening measures aimed at preventing and reducing organized crime, violent crimes, money laundering, illicit trafficking in strategic minerals, vandalization of public assets, cyber and cross-border crimes, as well as reducing road accidents by 2024. .
As well as continuing, he said, to invest in improving infrastructure, reinforcing means and equipment to enhance the ministry’s bodies, especially the National Police, as well as in the completion of ongoing housing projects.
He defended the improvement of rapprochement and communication with the population, to prevent the commission of crimes and encourage a culture of reporting, with the support of the Integrated Public Security Center (CISP).
Eugénio Laborinho said it was necessary to continue adopting measures to improve border control, the management of migratory acts and service to users, making it faster.
Making efforts to improve the living conditions of prisoners, with the inauguration of new penitentiary establishments in some provinces, observing the dignity of the human person, is another concern of the governor.
He stated that the Civil Protection and Fire Services (SPCB) will pay special attention taking into account the rainfall, atmospheric discharges, floods, landslides, overflows of rivers and river basins, which occur in the country, in addition to the road accidents.
