Africa-Press – Angola. The proposal for the new political-administrative division of the national territory involves listening to the population, through consultations carried out by provincial governments and municipal administrations.
The statement was made by the Minister of Territorial Administration, Dionisio da Fonseca, at the end of the visit to infrastructure works underway in the cities of Lobito, Catumbela and Benguela.
“We think that, in general, the feeling is positive and we will move forward, probably not with the elevation of so many communes to municipalities”, he explained.
According to the official, these actions will address the problems of territorial limits of the municipalities, as is the case with those of Cubal and Chongoroi, in Benguela, a situation that is repeated in other districts of the country.
He guaranteed, however, that he will ensure a service closer to the citizen and a more effective response to the problems of the local population.
Asked about the municipal infrastructure of Luhongo, in the municipality of Catumbela, the minister explained that initially there was some embarrassment with the contractor.
He referred to the physical characteristics of its construction, meaning it was necessary to redefine the project.
“All these actions caused delays in the execution of the work and also in payments”, he explained.
However, he emphasized, MAT is encouraging the contractor to move forward with the work to make it available to the Catumbela Municipal Administration.
Regarding the impression he had, after checking both the works of the MAT and those of the Provincial Government, he said that he returns with a “very positive” vision.
He took the opportunity to appeal to citizens for their collaboration in preserving these assets, fundamentally to help the province develop.
“It means that people should avoid disorderly construction and vandalization of public property,” he concluded.
