Africa-Press – Angola. Politicians and members of civil society praised, this Friday, in Ndalatando, Cuanza Norte province, the achievements of Agostinho Neto as a prominent figure in the achievement of independence and unity for Angolans.

Regarding the National Hero’s Day, celebrated on September 17th, the interlocutors highlighted the human and political qualities of the first President of Angola, Agostinho Neto.

Historian Marcos Jerónimo suggested intensifying actions to publicize President Neto’s achievements, adding that little is being done taking into account its size.

For the religious, Agostinho Neto’s famous phrase “The most important thing is to solve the people’s problems” is a maximum expression of human feeling and should inspire Angolan leaders towards the country’s development.

FNLA politician Fernandes Caculo considered that Neto was a President who donated himself to the country and Angolans have an obligation to increasingly pay homage to him.

He called for the study and application of Neto’s progressive ideas in relation to the problems of the world and Africa, as a way of fighting against regionalism, racism and all forms of discrimination.

However, the former secretary of the FNLA in Cuanza Norte argued that National Hero’s Day should be dedicated to everyone who contributed to the liberation of Angola.

September 17th is National Hero’s Day, the date of birth of António Agostinho Neto, the first President of independent Angola. and National Hero Day.

The doctor and poet is honored for his contribution to the decolonization of Angola.
