Africa-Press – Angola. The recently ended State visit of President João Lourenço to Botswana was the headline this Monday in the main daily newspaper published in the Tswanian capital, Gaborone.
With several titles dedicated to the activity of the Angolan head of state, the newspaper “DailyNews” devotes an entire page to photographic illustrations of the different moments of João Lourenço’s visit to Gaborone.
He underlines the “historic” nature of the visit of the Angolan President and the expectation that it will bring “benefits” to both countries.
“Historic and beneficial visit” is the cover story of the DailyNews, which reproduces passages from the speech by the Tswanese President during the official banquet offered, Friday, to João Lourenço at the end of this first state visit by an Angolan statesman to Botswana.
In this context, the newspaper emphasizes that the historic visit of the Angolan head of state laid the foundations for the deepening of ties between the two countries whose diplomatic relations date back to the beginnings of Angola’s independence.
Angola and Botswana have maintained diplomatic relations since 1976, which resulted in the signing of the General Cooperation Agreement in February 2006.
Like Angola, Botswana is a member of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), a regional integration organization that seeks to form a free trade area.
