Africa-Press – Angola. Two hundred and 63 new jobs, 193 direct and 70 indirect, were created in Huambo province, through the Informal Economy Reconversion Program (PREI) being implemented in this region since January 2022.

The data were provided Wednesday, by the director of the local Integrated Economic Development office, Manuel Vitongue, who referred that the new jobs resulted from the financing of 193 micro-projects, with a sum of 148 million, 893 thousand 140 Kwanzas.

The official said that women lead the list of beneficiary traders, with a minimum amount of 50,000 Kwanzas and a maximum of seven million, in a total of 102 projects, while the others were sent by men.

These, according to Manuel Vitongue, are part of a total of more than 11 thousand informal traders, who sent their processes through the formal and informal markets of Quissala (commonly Germany) and municipal, the latter, in the interior of the city of Huambo, for the conversion of their commercial activities.

Despite the reduced number of funded projects, the official considered it satisfactory, taking into account the main objective of the programme, which aims to formalize informal activity.

He clarified that the non-financing of the majority of missing projects was due to some irregularities verified in the processes sent by traders from Huambo province.

At the moment, he added, the possibility of the second phase of the program is expected to benefit more local traders.

Still on the results of the PREI in the province of Huambo, he informed that of the more than 11 thousand traders who sent their processes, 6 thousand 419 formalized their activities with related institutions, of these, 3 thousand 465 applied for tax identification at the General Tax Administration ( AGT) and 1,619 were registered at the National Social Security Institute (INSS).

The PREI, implemented in the country within the scope of the National Development Plan (PDN), is an economic campaign that aims to reduce occupation in informal activities, estimated at 70 percent.

This percentage rate generated a loss of around 65 percent of the income of the informal economy, estimated at US$40 billion.

In order to achieve the objectives set out in the implementation of the PREI, the Angolan Government relied on funding from the European Union (EU) and methodological support from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), with the congregation of multisectoral services, namely the Directorate National Identification, Registration and Notary and municipal administrations.

They also include the General Tax Administration (AGT), the Single Company Guiché (GUE), the national institutes of Employment and Vocational Training (Inefop), of Support to Micro, Small and Medium-sized Companies (Inapem), of Social Security (INSS) and microcredit societies.
