President João Lourenço returns to the country

Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, returned to the country this Wednesday from Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), after participating in the Sustainability Week, a forum dedicated to the environment.

Accompanied by the First Lady of the Republic, Ana Dias Lourenço, the Angolan Head of State received, at the airport, welcome greetings from the Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa, from members of the Government, among other entities.

João Lourenço left the country on Saturday, bound for the political capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), where he landed on Sunday.

The Angolan Head of State met with his counterpart Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, having analyzed the strengthening of bilateral cooperation.

As part of the participation in Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) 2023, President João Lourenço spoke on the panel on Clean Energy in Africa alongside the Head of State of Zambia, Hakainde Hichilema.

On the panel, João Lourenço reaffirmed Angola’s commitment to using 77 percent of renewable energy by 2025. Currently, the country produces 76 percent of energy from environmentally friendly sources.

During the forum, the organization awarded the Zayed Sustainability Prize, with the Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, one of the entities that awarded the distinction to the winner of one of the categories.

The Zayed Prize recognizes the excellence of the world’s sustainability pioneers and provides a platform to drive sustainability transformation.

On the sidelines of ADSW 2023, the Angolan President met the Mozambican statesman, Filipe Nyusi, with whom he exchanged views on the political situation in that country.
