Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, returned to the country this Thursday night, after having visited Congo for a few hours for political consultations on the situation in Gabon.

At the Luanda Military Air Base, the Angolan Head of State received greetings from the Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa, and members of the Executive.

João Lourenço traveled to Congo at the invitation of President Denis Sassou Nguesso, with whom he discussed the situation in Gabon, marked by a coup d’état carried out on Wednesday (30th) by the Gabonese army.

During their stay, the Heads of State of Angola, João Lourenço, and Congo, Dennis Sassou N’Guessou, condemned the seizure of power by force in the Republic of Gabon, having called for respect for the physical integrity of President Ali Bongo Odimba, of his family and of high entities of the institutions of the State.

They exhorted all actors to favor political dialogue as a way of preserving the peace, unity and serenity of the Gabonese people.

In the early hours of Wednesday, a group of soldiers from the Gabonese army announced a coup d’état, on national television, after the release of the results of the general elections in that country.

The announcement was made in a press release read on the television channel “Gabon 24” by the military who decided to close the country’s borders.

Gabon is located on the Atlantic coast of central Africa and has land borders with Equatorial Guinea, Cameroon and Congo and sea borders with São Tomé and Príncipe.
