President of Tanzania Arrives Today to Strengthen Bilateral Relations

Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan, begins today, in Luanda, an official 72-hour visit to Angola, at the invitation of the Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, with a view to strengthening bilateral cooperation relations.According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Tanzanian stateswoman is expected to land this afternoon at 4 de Fevereiro International Airport, where she will be received by Minister Téte António. In Luanda, the document citing the presidential agenda states, a meeting with President João Lourenço is scheduled at the Palácio da Cidade Alta, during which the two Heads of State will focus on deepening bilateral relations between Angola and Tanzania.

Samia Suluhu Hassan will undertake an intense political, diplomatic, economic and cultural programme. The President of Tanzania will visit the Dr. António Agostinho Neto Memorial and lay a wreath at the sarcophagus of the Founder of the Nation and sign the respective book of honour.

Political and diplomatic relations between Angola and Tanzania were formally established in 1976, shortly after the proclamation of National Independence.Tanzania stood out as one of the African countries that most supported the liberation struggle in Portuguese-speaking African Countries (PALOP), having welcomed and assisted liberation movements from Angola and other countries on Tanzanian soil.

This historic relationship of solidarity has translated into a lasting friendship, which has been consolidated over the last few decades. Both countries share a common vision on sustainable development, regional integration and the defence of multilateralism, cooperating actively within the African Union, the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and other international platforms. Recently, the Tanzanian Government expressed its interest in expanding cooperation with Angola in several areas. The intention was expressed last month by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation and Special Envoy of the President of Tanzania, Mamud Sabith Kombo. The official, who was speaking at the end of an audience that the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, granted to Minister Mamud Kombo, delivered a letter from the Head of State of Tanzania.

The Tanzanian minister recalled the long history shared between the two countries, having stressed that “Angola and Tanzania have a long history and we are talking about strengthening this long history together, with cooperation in various spheres, political, economic and social cooperation”, said Mamud Sabith Kombo, who could not, obviously, reveal more details of the message delivered to the Angolan statesman.According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Angola and Tanzania have “quite historic and fruitful” relations, justifying his presence at the Presidential Palace to “review” the ties of cooperation “in the economic, political and social fields, which we intend to strengthen even further”.

Mamud Sabith Kombo also said that the relations of cooperation between the two countries date back many years and were forged at a time when some, including himself, were not born, emphasizing that the mission is to continue to develop them, for the good of both peoples and countries.
