President of the Republic predicts better response to burns cases

Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, announced, this Saturday, that the Hospital dos Queimados, under construction in the Urban District of Kilamba, municipality of Belas, in Luanda, will meet the need for patient care in the country, particularly in the capital.

The President referred to the fact that Luanda will be able to count, within two years, on two health units with this specialty, which, in his opinion, working simultaneously will certainly respond to the situation.

He recalled that the other unit, which has existed for a long time, is currently undergoing rehabilitation and expansion works, which are already in the final phase, as it had limited space and poor conditions.

According to the President of the Republic, it should be delivered in the next few days.

“Unfortunately, there have been many victims of house fires and beyond, which affect people of all ages, even children, and this has worried us”, he said, highlighting that the country does not yet have the capacity to match the number of cases that have arisen, especially in Luanda, which has more than ten million inhabitants.

As for the other provinces, João Lourenço explained that they may have areas, within general hospitals, to treat burn cases.

This Saturday, the holder of the Executive Power noted the construction work on the Kilamba Hospital for Burns, with a capacity for 248 beds, and in the end he showed himself to be confident that the contractor will respect the commitment to deliver it in March 2025, the agreed period in the contract.

Once completed, it will provide better healthcare to the population.

The works, with 270 workers, including nationals and foreigners, began in March 2022, in an area of 48 thousand square meters, with physical execution at 12.5 percent.

The project is budgeted at 149 million Euros and includes four buildings, with emphasis on a main one and an auxiliary one. It includes an oxygen production station and a water treatment station.

The main building consists of six floors and must house an administrative space, external consultations, an emergency block, physiotherapy, emagiology, pharmacy, auxiliary and technical services, laundry, morgue and warehouses.

The first floor will have a central laboratory, six operating rooms, a sterilization and respiratory therapy area, an auditorium for 244 people, a hyper bariatric room (related to aiding the transport of oxygen through blood vessels) and a data center.

The installation of technical equipment and a cafeteria is planned for the second floor. The third and fourth floors, respectively, are intended for hospitalization, one for adults and the other for children (pediatrics), while on the highest floors, five and six, the technical area will be located.

The six floors will be interconnected by a service tunnel to the auxiliary building that houses the Mechanical, Electricity and Plumbing (MEC) services.

The project, whose financial progress is 8.67 percent, also includes a car park with capacity for 364 vehicles.
