Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, left Luanda this Monday, bound for Equatorial Guinea, to participate in an extraordinary summit of the Economic Community of Central African States (CEEAC).

At the Luanda Military Air Base, the Angolan Head of State received farewell greetings from the President of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, and members of the Executive.

The ECCAS high-level meeting results from consultations held last Thursday in Oyo, Republic of Congo, between Presidents João Lourenço and Denis Sassou N’Guesso.

In the consultation, according to a note from the Press Secretariat of the Presidential Palace, the need to convene an extraordinary summit of the ECCAS was assumed.

This is a summit that aims to provide the organization with leadership, in order to avoid a legal vacuum and guarantee the continuity of its activities, taking into account the events that occurred in the Republic of Gabon.

In the early hours of Wednesday (30) a group of military personnel from the Gabonese army announced a coup d’état, on national television, after the release of the results of the general elections in that country.

The announcement was made in a press release read on the television channel “Gabon 24” by the military who decided to close the country’s borders.
