Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, assured that the Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport, inaugurated, will have provisional private management in order to guarantee revenue for the State.
In a press conference, after the inauguration ceremony of the infrastructure, located in the Bom Jesus area, municipality of Icolo and Bengo, in Luanda, João Lourenço reaffirmed that the opening of a public tender to find the definitive private operator will take place within of a few months.
He added that once the definitive operator is appointed, the State’s expenses with the airport will reduce considerably and the time will come to share the revenue it will generate with the State, which owns the infrastructure.
The President of the Republic stated that this airport will continue to belong to the State, but managed by a competent private entity, which will transform it into a source of revenue for the State.
Shortly known as “AIAAN”, Dr. António Agostinho Neto Airport occupies an area of 1,324 hectares and will have capacity for 15 million passengers and a cargo volume of 130 thousand tons per year.
It has two double runways, the largest of which is four thousand meters by 20 meters wide, and is designed to receive, among others, aircraft of the B747 and A380 types, currently the largest commercial aircraft, in addition to contemplating the construction of an airport city from scratch. which will cover a construction area of 75 square kilometers.
