Africa-Press – Angola. The administrative political division (DPA), under analysis by the Executive, responds to the challenges of combating regional asymmetries and social inequalities, with the approximation of public services to the population, said Wednesday, the provincial secretary of the Party of Social Renewal (PRS) in Cunene, António Vitorino.
The politician spoke about the new administrative political division that aims, among others, to comply with the demands of demographic growth and infrastructure, reduce regional asymmetries, promote the harmonious development of the national territory and foresees the division of the provinces of Cuando Cubango and Moxico by two each, as well as elevating all communes to the category of municipalities.
According to the secretary, the project will ensure the population’s access to basic services, particularly residents in rural areas.
For him, the administrative division project goes against the federalism defended by the PRS.
“This project will contribute to the improvement of justice services, especially birth registration, identity cards and other documents”, he emphasized.
Regarding the elevation of communes to municipalities, he said that it constitutes an important step towards the decentralization of local power.
The administrative proposal for the province of Cunene, which has an area of 87,342 square kilometers and 17,491 million inhabitants, foresees an increase from six to 18 municipalities.
