Africa-Press – Angola. The remains of Queen Nhakatolo Tchilombo were, this Saturday afternoon, buried at the Tchissamba cemetery, in the village of Cazombo, Alto Zambeze municipality, in Moxico province.

The queen died a week ago, in Luanda, and the funeral ceremony was marked by “strong” traditional rituals of the Luvale culture.

The sovereign was buried in the Tchissamba cemetery, where her ancestors were buried, namely her father, Prince Tchinhama, and grandmother, Queen Nhakatolo Tchissengo, her predecessor.

The funeral procession, full of emotion, was preceded by moments of reading various messages from State institutions and other entities, which highlighted the queen’s legacy in the preservation of cultural values.

During the ceremony, held in her Embala, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism (MINCULTUR) recognized the commitment and struggle of the sovereign in preserving the moral and cultural values, in particular, of the Luvale people.

For its part, the Provincial Government of Moxico highlighted the cultural, political and social qualities of the sovereign of the Luvale, during a reign of 19 years (2004-2023).

The king of Bailundo, Isaac Francisco Lucas Somaquesenje “Tchongolola Tchongonga”, who attended the funeral, described the queen as an example of defending and preserving the pillars of culture.

Queen Nhakatolo Tchilombo, who died aged 86 due to illness, was born in the commune of Cavungo, municipality of Alto Zambeze, having left a son and 52 great-grandchildren.

He came to the throne at the age of 67, succeeding his grandmother, Nhakatolo Tchissengo, who led the kingdom for 35 years, after being crowned on February 27, 1957, aged 79, replacing his mother, Nhakatolo Kutemba.
