Africa-Press – Angola. Over 50 tons of agricultural goods and various livestock are transported every week from the station of the Moçâmedes Railway (CFM) in the municipality of Quipungo, Huila, demonstrating its importance in the trade of local agricultural and livestock production.

The station is a depot for national production, from where cereals, oilseeds, small cattle, beef, sugar cane, potatoes and various other goods leave for other places. It connects Lubango, via neighboring Chicungo and Matala, with an average of 120 passengers a day, mostly foreign traders and local producers.

Businesswoman Palmira Solochi said that as well as transporting people, the station serves as a logistical corridor for the movement of agricultural products and animals.

Martins Mariano, pointed out that many producers bring their produce to the station and there they meet buyers from other parts of the country, a kind of warehouse, where beans, maize, cattle, chickens and goats are among the most sought-after goods.

The Moçâmedes Railway (CFM) recently expressed its readiness to respond to requests from agricultural producers to transport local produce.

At least 14,440 tons of cargo, including granite, fuel and lubricants, are transported monthly on the Lubango/Namibe stretch and vice versa by the CFM.
