More than 200 tons of rice were harvested in the municipality of Quirima, province of Malanje, in the 2023-2024 agricultural campaign, according to the municipal director of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Francisco Domingos.In statements, Francisco Domingos reported that the forecast is to reach, in the next season, up to 400 tons, with the involvement of family farming, among cooperatives and associations, in the region, which also has potential for the cultivation of cassava and corn.

Francisco Domingos said that the municipality of Quirima has 52 Field Schools, which are working in the 2023-2024 agricultural campaign, in technical supervision, supporting 4,951 families.

In the last agricultural campaign, the sector prepared more than 120 hectares, and this year, more than 150 hectares are expected.

The municipality has nine cooperatives that intend to join the financing being granted by the Agricultural Development Support Fund (FADA).

In the fishing and livestock segment, cooperatives in the municipality of Quirima are being encouraged to invest in the creation and opening of tanks for the practice of aquaculture, for the production of catfish.

The municipality of Quirima, in the province of Malanje, is committed to honey production, despite the region having other potential in products such as cassava, corn and rice.

Beekeeping

The official informed that, in the Apiculture sector, more than 1,000 families are involved, organized in associations, which sell the product in the city of Malanje and other provinces of the country.

The honey production indicators are satisfactory, since despite the reduced sales, the intention is to increase the number of customers, with an emphasis on supermarkets.

“We are challenging beekeepers to produce a lot of honey locally, in order to extend the invitation to entrepreneurs who want to invest in this sector, given that the municipality has a total of five thousand hectares available for honey production,” said the official.
