Africa-Press – Angola. The Cameroonian singer and Instrumentalist Richard Bona recognized on Saturday (18), in Luanda, the Angolan musician Sam Mwangana’s contribution to promoting and perpetuating African culture through music.

Speaking to the press at Ramiros, Luanda, after his performance in the country’s capital, the Cameroon star highlighted the Angolan singer’s qualities and considered him one of the greatest international artists he has met throughout his career.

He mentioned meeting Sam Mwangana for the first time in the late 90s, performing in Paris, and caught his attention mostly fot the fact that Sam Mwangana sang in native language.

Richard Bona continued emphasizing that the Angolan is a fantastic singer, and his influence isn’t limited to Angola or Africa.

Returning to Luanda, 16 years after his last performance in the country’s capital, musician Richard Bona also thanked the Angolan audience for their warm welcome.

At the concert held on Saturday (18) night at the Belas Conference Center in Futungo, the musician interacted and enchanted the audience.

Accompanied by his band, the Cameroonian singer journeyed through the various albums that have marked his career with themes celebrating the strengthening of African music.

At the end of the event, which celebrated the 50th anniversary of National Independence, the musician was surprised by the appearance of the Angolan group Kilandukilo, who performed some traditional dances that moved the artist.

Born in Cameroon, the grandson of a “Mandinga griot,” Richard Bona left his country at the age of 22 to study double bass in Germany and France, and later settled in the United States.

He plays predominantly jazz, with a strong influence of “world fusion,” incorporating African rhythms, funk, and ethnic jazz.

The fusion of musical traditions from different ethnicities with jazz is also a characteristic of the singer’s work.
