Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan journalists who won the 2023 SADC Journalism Award, in the Press, Radio and Television categories, were awarded this Monday, in Luanda, with certificates of merit.
At the event, organized by the Ministry of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication, professionals Francisca Augusto and Venceslau Mateus, from Agência Angola Press (Press), Luís Mamana, from Rádio Nacional de Angola (Radio), and Ernesto Bartolomeu, of Public Television of Angola (Television).
In addition to the certificates, the winners in each category are entitled to two thousand and 500 dollars, and in the case of the press, the amount will be shared between the two journalists.
The ceremony was presided over by the Minister of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication, Mário Oliveira, who highlighted the fact
that Angola won, for the first time, three categories.
According to the government official, the fact that the country won the first place in the award in the Radio and Television category in the 2022 edition, as well as the second place in the Press category, motivated Angolan professionals to achieve this unprecedented achievement of the three top places in 2023.
He regretted, however, the fact that the same has not yet happened with the Photojournalism modality, which is why he encouraged professionals in the field to invest more.
When speaking at the ceremony, journalist Francisca Augusto highlighted the fact that the award came at a time when the company’s management is investing in staff training and investigative work.
According to the professional, this achievement crowns the efforts of the company’s management and all its employees, aiming to gradually transform
the agency into the country’s main source of information.
In turn, Luís Mamana said that journalists from Rádio Nacional de Angola accepted to take on the challenge
of producing investigative content, while Ernesto Bartolomeu thanked TPA for trusting more experienced people for social impact work.
The SADC Journalism Award was established in 1996 to encourage media and professionals in the region to play a leading role in disseminating information about the Southern African Development Community to support the cooperation process.
