Africa-Press – Angola. Senegal, playing at home in Dakar, overcame Egypt, by 21-19, qualifying for the semi-final, where they will face Angola.

The first half of the match between both teams was marked by a very balanced result, but the home team went to the locker rooms with a two-goal lead.

The hostesses did everything to hold the advantage and after much struggle, they managed to reach the third best result in the country in the history of the competition, since in the first edition of the African Women’s Handball Championship (CAN), in 1974, they were finalists, and more recently, in 2018, they also lost another final, this one, against the pearls.

The Senegalese dream of lifting the title remains alive, however, for that, they will have to eliminate the National Team, which is in search of the 15th trophy, and may represent the fourth championship, if we take into account the victorious series of the Angolans , which began in 2016, at the 22nd edition of the CAN, held in Luanda.

However, this triumphant path does not match the one previously recorded by the pearls, which goes from 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2010 until 2012 and which corresponds to eight consecutive titles.

It is also worth mentioning that Senegal’s result allowed Angola to join the group of African teams qualified for the World Cup, which will take place with a joint candidacy between Denmark, Norway and Sweden and which will take place in the next November 30th to December 17th.
