Africa-Press – Angola. Six buildings built more than 50 years ago, in the province of Namibe, in a state of advanced infrastructure degradation, will be intervened from 2024.

The guarantee was given this Sunday by the Minister of Public Works, Urban Planning and Housing, Carlos Alberto dos Santos, at the end of his four-day visit to the province of Namibe to assess some infrastructure such as roads, bridges and buildings in a state of degradation. in the municipalities of Moçâmedes and Tômbwa.

According to the minister, the aforementioned buildings do not present serious structural dangers, but due to their condition they will be included in a solution, within the scope of the priority rehabilitation program defined by the Government of Namibe.

Even before the rehabilitation intervention of these six buildings, the minister guaranteed that a technical team from the Angola Engineering Laboratory will travel to Namibe for more data.

The buildings, all located in Moçâmedes, are the Fortaleza de São Fernando, Cine Namibe, Cine Impala Study, Planning and Statistics Office of the Government of Namibe, Lar das Pescas and the former building of the National Bank of Angola (BNA).

For the buildings currently occupied, the government will find better solutions with the residents so that, at the end of the works, they can return to live in them, taking as an example the Lar das Pescas, where more than 10 professors from the Hélder Neto Polytechnic Institute live.

For the integrated infrastructure project for the city of Moçâmedes, especially in the lower area, Avenida Eduardo Mondasse, whose buildings are flooded during the rainy season, such as Customs and BPC, the minister guaranteed that there was a solution, with work scheduled to begin to the next year.

In this endeavor, he highlighted that the fundamental thing is the rehabilitation of gutters or canal openings that can allow rainwater to drain into the sea.

In relation to roads, the minister was satisfied with what is being done in Namibe and with little money, referring to the construction of roads, sidewalks and signage, an experience that will be taken throughout the country.

He was also satisfied with the performance of the construction companies, which, despite late payments, continued with the works.
