Sonangol confirms onshore oil in the Kwanza Basin

Africa-Press – Angola. Sonangol, through its Exploration and Production Unit, confirmed, on Thursday, the existence of oil in Block 11 of the Kwanza Onshore Basin, in almost the entire reservoir of the Tobias-14 well, at a depth of 960 meters.

According to a press release from the state oil company sent this revelation increases the remaining potential of the Tobias field, and the well’s production capacity will be verified after tests are carried out soon.

The document states that the successful drilling of the well, named Tobias-14, associated with the successful operation in the Tobias 13 well, boosts Sonangol, as operator, and its partners, Apex, Brite’s Oil, Grupo Simples and Omega, to reactivate production in the Kwanza Onshore Basin, scheduled for the end of the current year.

The aforementioned basin has been inactive since the 1990s, with the Exploration and Production Unit and its partners from the KON-11 Land Block being the authors of the return of oil activity in this region.

The National Oil, Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANPG) and Sonangol have the most significant participation in the Block-1 contractor group, with 30 percent, the companies Brite’s Oil and Gas, 25 percent, Atlas (APEX), 20 percent, the Simples Oil group, 20 percent and Omega with five percent.
