Africa-Press – Angola. Tomorrow, at 4 pm, at Palácio de Ferro, the famous American photographer Steve McCurry will lead a masterclass on the art of storytelling through photography, an event organized by the Bornito de Sousa Foundation.Angolan photographer José Manuel will be the first speaker at the meeting, which aims to share experiences among photography professionals.
According to the organization, Steve McCurry is arriving in Luanda for a short two-day visit. However, the organization said that the American photographer is expected to return to the country next year, with a longer stay in mind.
The renowned National Geographic photographer became world famous for capturing the famous image of the “Afghan girl”, named Gula. While in the Nasir Bagh refugee camp in Pakistan in 1984, Gula was photographed by photographer Steve McCurry, at the time just 12 years old. Her face was featured on the cover of the magazine in the June 1985 issue, and is still considered the most recognisable photograph in the history of this famous publication.
