Africa-Press – Angola. A video surveillance system controlled by a drone, to combat security inadequacies in companies and reduce human resources in the manning process, was developed by students from the Instituto Politécnico Privado Maravilha, located in Lubango, Huíla province.

These are 11 students, from the 11th and 12th classes, from the Electronics and Telecommunications and Machines and Motors courses, who set up the system in one month, with the help of two teachers who are experts in the training areas.

The system created an F-150 drone that has a flight autonomy of up to 45 minutes, and can reach an altitude and range of up to 800 meters. It is made from materials purchased on the national market, which cost 150 thousand kwanzas.

The information was provided, Wednesday, by the project’s deputy coordinator, Ricardo João, during the Talent Fair, within the framework of the 5th National Meeting of Schools Associated with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Social Organization. Culture (UNESCO), which closes this Thursday.

Said to be a system made up of four motors connected to a three-cell battery, with a capacity of two thousand and 200 milliampere/hour, which can be expanded to increase flight capacity.

He mentioned that the system was created due to the insufficiencies they found during one of the visits made to the Moçâmedes Railway (CFM), due to the lack of patrolling, due to the lack of security personnel, it is experiencing serious problems of vandalization of its assets.

Also an electrical engineer and professor, he said that it was along this path that the need to develop the project arose, which could help mitigate the difficulties encountered in the CFM, from a control room, monitoring the scanning work of the drone, from space.

In addition to the CFM, Ricardo João declared that the video surveillance system, using a drone , can be used by warehouses, large industries, farms, economic zones, among other companies, installed in perimeters with weak surveillance or garrison systems.

“The project belongs to the school institution and is the first presentation of it. We are waiting for companies to contact us. It’s a new project, in Huíla and in the country. It’s the first drone video surveillance project to be publicly presented,” he said.

The 5th National Meeting of Schools Associated with UNESCO is held by the Angolan National Commission for UNESCO, in partnership with the Government of Huíla, under the motto “In education we are one” and has as its central theme “A system of education and teaching for the culture of peace and global citizenship”.

The event aims to reflect on experiences of good practice and outline action strategies that aim to contribute to a culture of peace and sustainable development.

During the three days of activities, in addition to the themes related to peace, culture, education and environment, chess and basketball tournaments take place, as well as a talent and innovation fair.
