Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of Public Works, Urbanism and Housing, Carlos Alberto Santos, recommended in Lubango that provincial and municipal governments include in their project portfolios actions aimed at directed self-construction, with a view to reducing the housing deficit in the country .
The governor, who was speaking as part of his two-day visit to the Huíla province, which, among other objectives, aimed to verify the district’s state of preparation for the program to boost directed self-construction, in 2024, despite the fact that Huíla has already benefited from the second largest centrality in the country, with eight thousand homes, but still insufficient.
He mentioned that the deficit is currently estimated at 2.2 million and along these lines, the Government of Angola recently approved the directed self-construction program, recently launched in Bié, as part of the National Housing Program, where it is expected to provide 910 thousand plots of land in the country by 2027.
He highlighted that the pilot phase, which is currently underway, is well underway, there are flaws that are promptly corrected, meaning that all provinces and municipalities have the responsibility to prepare the General State Budget for 2024, registering related projects.
He highlighted that in this process, the State prepares the lots, provides access infrastructure, water and electricity and, in a targeted manner, the citizen can request their space and with the support of technical teams that the Ministry has at Central level.
“We intend to bring these technical teams to the municipalities and the citizen will be able to build their home in a directed and assisted way, avoiding problems of urban requalification in the neighborhoods that Huíla also lives in”, he said.
