Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan state has made a 300 billion kwanza financing line available, with a sovereign guarantee, to boost the country’s textile sector, the president of the Textile and Clothing Industry Association (AITECA), Luís Contreiras, confirmed on Saturday.
The association leader gave this information to the press at the end of a visit to the Viana Industrial Pole by the Minister of State for Economic Coordination, José de Lima Massano, who met with members to learn about the problems plaguing the sector.
Among the difficulties mentioned were constraints on access to finance, the purchase of raw materials such as cotton, elastic, zippers, buttons, thread and packaging boxes.
Despite the difficulties, the clothing sector has a production capacity of five million garments a year and employs around 4,700 workers.
The Minister for Industry and Trade, Rui Minguês, stressed the importance of the clothing industry production, although not yet at a desirable level, underling that dialogue with these associations is important and necessary, since some issues raised already have solutions, however not being properly implemented.
The minister explained that there are around 106 clothing industries, and around 550 clothing micro-enterprises currently operating.
