Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan Writers Union (UEA) announced this Monday the death of the writer, journalist and professor Dario de Melo, which took place on Sunday, June 5, in the city of Benguela, due to illness.

According to UEA, the writer, journalist and teacher, Dario de Melo was born on December 2, 1935, in Benguela. He has worked in various professions as a teacher, school inspector, editor at the National Institute of Books and Discs and an employee at the Ministry of Information.

The Angolan Writers Union also highlights that as a journalist, he worked on the radio, was director of Voz do Bié, in 1972, of Tveja (Revista da Televisão Pública de Angola), in 1983, of Jornal de Angola and Correio da Semana (which founded together with Manuel Dionisio), in 1991, and Jornal Jango, in 1992.

Of the more than 18 published titles in the area of ​​children’s literature, according to UEA, the highlights are Estórias do Leão Velho (1985), Vou Contar (1988), Aqui, mas do Outros Lado (2000) and As Sete Vidas de um Gato (2002), with which he won the PALOP 98 prize for Portuguese Language for Children’s Literature.

“In this moment of pain and mourning, the Union of Angolan Writers addresses the deepest condolences to family, friends and colleagues and bows before the soul of its member, who from 1992 to 1994, served as President of the Board of the Assembly ” reads the condolence note.
