Africa-Press – Angola. Football, basketball and handball dominated the news over the past week, with the sport “King” rising four places in the FIFA Ranking.

The National Team moved from 118th to 114th, with 1158 points, according to the table updated on the 29th of June.

In basketball, the Senior Men’s National Team is finalizing its preparation, in the province of Benguela, taking into account its participation in AFROCAN`2023, from 8 to 16 July, in Luanda.

In the game “from the ball to the basket”, but in the women’s sector, 1.o de Agosto dominate the national pre-selection, with 12 athletes participating in the African Championship (Afrobasket2023), to be played from 28 July to August 6th, in Rwanda.

Angolan winger Sílvio Sousa has signed a contract for one season with the Aris BC team, from the 1st Division of the Greek Championship, according to the club’s website.

Last season, the player represented the Chorale Roanne of France, after passing through the United States of America.

Meanwhile, the national junior men’s handball team occupied 25th place in the World Championship, co-organized by Germany and Greece.

In the world competition, the Angolans achieved three victories in the consolation stage and conceded four defeats, three in the group stage and another in the rankings from 17th to 24th place.

The Secretary of State for Sport, Teresa Ulundo, considered, in Luanda, the third edition of the Angolan Sports Business Conference (CONFENDA), a real window of opportunities for economic and social income.

Speaking at the opening of the event, representing minister Palmira Barbosa, he stressed that the organizers had a good vision in bringing to Angola the idea that sport is a real business, like in other countries, such as Europe.
