Africa-Press – Angola. Two officers from the Criminal Investigation Service (SIC), in Zaire province, were sentenced Monday to seven months in prison, by the District Court of Mbanza Kongo, for fuel smuggling.
These are chief inspectors Cílio Manuel and Pedro José Atanásio, head of operations at the municipal department of Mbanza Kongo of the SIC and criminal investigator of the provincial department of this body, respectively.
According to the sentence read by the judge of law Felisberto Kapunje, the accused were arrested in the locality of Mbanza Mpango, on the access road to the border of Luvo, municipality of Mbanza Kongo, when they were escorting a vehicle loaded with 17 thousand and 500 liters of diesel bound for the DRC.
“As accomplices in the crime of export smuggling, this court decides to sentence them to the effective sentence of seven months in prison”, said the magistrate.
The co-defendants were also ordered to pay 300,000 kwanzas each in court fees.
Located in the north of Angola, the province of Zaire shares a 310 kilometer border with the DRC.
