Africa-Press – Angola. Angola is seeking to strengthen technical and financial partnerships in order to promote regional integration and intermodal connectivity at the 3rd UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDC3), which takes place from the 5th to the 8th of the current month in Awaza, Turkmenistan.
At the event, which is being held under the motto “Driving Progress through Partnerships,” Angola is being represented by a delegation led by the country’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Francisco José da Cruz.
According to the document, the conference represents an opportunity to strengthen Angola’s visibility as a regional logistics and trade player and promote strategic projects, such as the Lobito Corridor.
The event also serves to deepen Angola’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals and the 2063 African Union’s Agenda, as well as to highlight the country as a reliable and supportive partner for landlocked developing countries, contributing to tangible solutions for connectivity, trade and sustainable development.
This is the main intergovernmental forum for assessing progress made in implementing the Vienna Programme of Action (2014–2024) and adopting a new Awaza Programme of Action for the next decade, focused on connectivity, resilience, and inclusive prosperity for the 32 landlocked developing countries.
The note adds that the 3rd United Nations Conference takes place in a global context marked by economic uncertainty, climate shocks, geopolitical instability, and growing financing constraints.
According to the document, this moment demands a coordinated response to ensure that landlocked countries are not left behind in efforts to achieve the 2030 Agenda.
The Conference brings together Heads of State and Government, representatives of regional and international organizations, the private sector, civil society, and the United Nations system, with the aim of adopting a new development agenda for LLDCs, within the framework of the Awaza Programme of Action (2024–2034), which will replace the current Vienna Programme of Action, in force since 2014.
The LLDC3 comprises an opening session, six plenary sessions for general discussion, five high-level thematic roundtables, and several parallel forums, including the Youth Forum, the Private Sector Forum, the Parliamentary Forum, and the Civil Society Forum.
