Africa-Press – Angola. The representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Angola, Antero Pina, appealed, on Tuesday, to the Angolan Government to continue to value the 11 Commitments to Children, reinforcing laws and the General State Budget (OGE ) for the Social area, in order to promote and protect children’s rights in the country.

Speaking to the press, after the meeting with the National Group for Monitoring International Organizations of the National Assembly, Antero Pina said that, if all political will is combined with the budget increase and the support of UNICEF, it is possible to promote improving lives and protecting children’s rights in Angola. “We want the Government to continue with this concern. The Government has an excellent political platform which are the 11 Commitments with Children. There are good laws made in the country regarding children and it is necessary to reinforce the OGE a little more for the Social area, particularly Education, Health and Protection of Families”, he defended.

When talking about the work with the 5th and 8th committees of the National Assembly and the willingness to continue with similar meetings, Antero Pina highlighted the collaboration with the Ministry of Finance in order to reinforce the budget, with very particular needs.

Despite recognizing the challenges and issues that need to be improved, Antero Pina highlighted the progress achieved, mainly in the areas of Mortality, Education and Child Protection, praising the work with the ministries of Social Action, Family and Promotion of Women, in defining partnership between the international organization and Health/Education.

The UNICEF representative in Angola highlighted the Kwenda Program and its impacts on the lives of thousands of Angolan families, but defended, looking at the National Development Plan of Angola 2023-2027, the need for a specific monetary transfer project for children , in order to actually improve the lives of this layer of society, and an investment from 0 to 5 years of age.
