Africa-Press – Angola. The concerns contained in the demands list of Angola’s trade unions were debated, this Saturday, by workers from different sectors of activity in the province of Cunene.

As a backdrop, there is the demand for a 250 percent salary improvement for workers and the adoption of new macro-economic policies to face the current economic and financial situation.

According to the coordinator of the trade union central monitoring group for the province of Cunene, António Kalombo, the action aims to inform workers about the process of the demands list delivered to the Executive in September 2023, which aims to negotiate the implementation of several points.

He said that the mega assembly aims to make all workers aware of the measures imposed by the unions sent to the government and measure the level of adherence and collect signatures from workers, to support the declaration of the national strike scheduled for March 14.

He made it known that the published list of demands arises due to the fact that the recommendations of the May 2022 Memorandum and the Final Declaration, presented on the occasion of International Workers’ Day, had not been met, as well as the current economic situation in the country. lives, characterized by the loss of family purchasing power.

He highlighted that the list of demands essentially involves improving salaries, subsidies and other benefits for public servants and private companies aimed at the well-being of the population, through the adoption of new economic policies to combat inflation, unemployment levels

The secretary of UNTA-CS in Cunene, Eliseu Honge, praised the importance of the meeting, which will reap results for the good of Angolan workers, and therefore requested greater participation and contribution to the topics covered.

He recalled that trade union associations, as defenders of workers and partners of the government, must continue with the work of mobilizing and raising awareness among workers to denounce injustices in different fields of work in which they are targets and propose better solutions.

Angola has three Union Centrals, namely the National Union of Angolan Workers – Confederation of Unions (UNTA-CS), the General Central of Independent and Free Unions of Angola (CGSILA), and Força Sindical, which encompasses unions from various branches of activity.
