Africa-Press – Angola. The UNITA party advocates a restructuring of the National Electoral Commission (CNE), with a view to adapting it to SADC standards. The proposal was reiterated during the 11th Ordinary Session of the Standing Committee of the Political Commission, held, 10 April, in Luanda, under the guidance of the party president, Adalberto Costa Júnior.
According to the political force, the current configuration of the CNE does not guarantee, from their point of view, the principles of transparency and equity in electoral processes.
UNITA therefore maintains that the adoption of practices more aligned with regional standards would contribute to strengthening citizens’ confidence in electoral institutions and the country’s democratic stability.
During the session, the Standing Committee also expressed concern about the national socio-economic scenario, pointing out challenges related to the cost of living, public health – with emphasis on the cholera epidemic – and the political environment.
The ‘black rooster’ party also expressed its position on recent events linked to freedom of expression and the participation of foreign guests in events it holds, calling for dialogue and respect for democratic principles.
Internal party life
Regarding its internal dynamics, UNITA highlighted the celebrations of its 59th anniversary, which included activities in the provinces of the East, Benguela and Cabinda. In this context, a legislative proposal on supra-municipal political-administrative autonomy for that district was shared with Cabinda society.
The meeting also served to approve the party’s activity and accounts reports for the last quarter, as well as to swear in new staff who will now be working in several provinces, in a logic of adjustment to the new political-administrative division of the country.
