UNITA promises autonomy for Luanda and Cabinda

Africa-Press – Angola. The president of UNITA, Adalberto Costa Júnior, said this Saturday in Luanda, if the party wins the next elections, it will grant administrative and financial autonomy to Luanda and Cabinda.

Adalberto Costa Júnior, who made these promises, during the opening of the electoral campaign, in the municipality of Cazenga, said that if UNITA wins the elections, it will amend the Constitution of the Republic to introduce two autonomous regions, namely Luanda and Cabinda.

According to the politician, the autonomous administrative region of Cabinda would have a parliament, a government and administrative and financial autonomy, in order to end the conflict prevailing in the region.

The metropolitan administrative region of Luanda, on the other hand, would have the mission of solving the social problems that the province faces, in the field of drinking water, electricity, health, education and infrastructure.

During the speech, he stated that his party will present, in the coming days, the program of Inclusive and Participatory Government (GIP), resulting from a wide popular consultation.

Among the electoral promises, there is also the intention to seek consensus in Parliament in order to return the legislative and presidential elections to the country so that political parties cannot continue in the shadow of the head-of-list system. “We need to reduce the powers of the President of the Republic and promote his direct election”.

He appealed to Angolan politicians to be aware that terms are temporary, which is why voters are given back the power to choose rulers from time to time. The president of UNITA reiterated the need to hold municipal elections, in order to imprint a new dynamic on the local administration.
