Africa-Press – Angola. The parliamentary group of UNITA reaffirmed, this Thursday, the intention of taking to Parliament a legal file that aims, in essence, to remove the President of the Republic.
Among other allegations, the opposition party points out alleged violations of the Constitution, interference in the legislative and judicial power and in the National Bank of Angola, by the holder of the Executive Power.
According to the leader of the UNITA parliamentary group, Liberty Chiaka, as this is the first time that this instrument will be used, “people tend to react emotionally, without reviewing the Constitution and the law that the people approved through their representatives” .
In reaction, the MPLA pointed out that UNITA’s initiative to dismiss the President of the Republic, on the grounds of violation of the Constitution, “does not have political, legal, procedural or regimental legs to walk, due to the fact that there are no actions or omissions of the PR that justify resorting to article 129 of the Constitution”.
According to deputy Kilamba Vandúnem, although it is understandable from the point of view of political action, “it is still notorious that the leadership of UNITA did not have the courage to give face to the political initiative of dismissal, having chosen to hide in the cassock of your parliamentary group”.
The MPLA parliamentary group understands that UNITA’s initiative only pursues the continuous intention of discrediting the legally established State institutions, considering such an act a serious threat to democracy and the rule of law.
According to the politician, the same UNITA that rejects the legitimacy of the PR and the AN, resulting from the August 2022 elections, is the same that uses the parliamentary group in the National Assembly, which it claims to be illegitimate, to remove the elected President of the Republic.
“We are very close to the scenario of the same UNITA that was fighting the institutions in a fratricidal war and at the same time that it maintained a parliamentary mandate with 70 deputies”, he stressed.
Deputy Kilamba Vandúnem noted that the MPLA parliamentary group, realizing where the UNITA initiative intends to go, will act with serenity and in accordance with the Constitution and the parliamentary Rules.
Just as any political force in this parliament has the right to vote against the General State Account, maintained the politician, the MPLA parliamentary group is also entitled to vote against any initiative submitted to the National Assembly.
