Africa-Press – Angola. hirty-one million, 243 thousand and 660 kwanzas were collected during the year 2022, by the Department of Veterinary Services in Cunene province, against 13 million 67 thousand kwanzas in 2021.
The information was provided this Monday to press, by the head of the Veterinary Services in Cunene, Cláudio Simão, stressing that the amount in question results from the issuance of 319 sanitary documents for the transit of animals and inspection actions for the slaughter and sale of meat.
The official clarified that the increase in revenue is due to the easing of the restrictive measures of Covid 19, which allowed greater movement of creators, as well as the awareness of users and supervisory bodies.
He made it known that during the year 2022, the department recorded the movement of 1,202 head of cattle, 4,658 goats, 123 pigs, 17 horses and six dogs.
The animals in question, he stressed, were destined for the provinces of Luanda, Lunda Norte, Huambo, Uige and Namibe, destined for breeding and reproduction.
Cláudio Simão said that during the year, 2,660 animals were inspected from the slaughterhouses, resulting in the production of 98,735 kilograms of meat.
The official considered the level of meat production satisfactory, despite the fact that the province does not have a functional industrial slaughterhouse.
“Currently, the province has 23 slaughterhouses and a rural slaughterhouse, while the slaughterhouse in Cahama (Peccus), due to the downtime, the equipment has been degraded”, he underlined.
Furthermore, he highlighted the need for municipal administrations to invest within the framework of the Integrated Program for Local Development and Combating Poverty, in the construction of slaughterhouses and veterinary pharmacies, to ensure the conditions for meat production.
He said there was a need to boost services, in order to guarantee a hygienic and sanitary state during slaughter and conservation so that consumers have quality meat.
Data from the Department of Veterinary Services indicate that Cunene province has an estimated herd of over one million and 250 thousand head of cattle.
