Vice-governor highlights the Army's participation in social welfare

Africa-Press – Angola. The deputy governor for the Political, Social and Economic sector of the province of Huambo, Angelino Elavoco, highlighted Sunday, the Army’s participation in social and economic development, with a focus on improving common well-being.

The official, who was speaking at the event commemorating the 32nd anniversary of the creation of the National Army, which is celebrated today, said that this branch of the Angolan Armed Forces, along with the Air Force and the Navy, fulfilled important missions that can be summarized as rehabilitation or construction infrastructure, provision of resources and services to support the returning population and participation in demining efforts.

He also said that he worked on road and bridge rehabilitation actions, in addition to supporting the Government in the literacy and school acceleration program, with the opening of schools at barracks level.

He highlighted that 21 years after achieving peace, the Army, together with other branches of the Angolan Armed Forces, is committed to the imperatives of peace and stability in the region and the continent, working diligently in preparing personnel.

He added that this branch of the FAA has fulfilled its mission in defending the national terrestrial space, with the aim of maintaining readiness and guaranteeing the inviolability of borders, through education and instruction, which enhances national symbols, respect for the Constitution of the Republic, to constitutionally elected bodies, the rescue of moral and civic values, the eradication of illiteracy and the preservation of public goods.

He recalled that this branch of the Angolan Armed Forces has always collaborated with the National Police in preventing various crimes that threaten the social well-being of citizens.

Therefore, Angelino Elavoco drew attention to the need for the Army to continue monitoring the international situation in matters of defense and security, with emphasis on trafficking in drugs, weapons, currency and human beings, money laundering, financing of terrorism and illegal immigration.

The person responsible also requested the intervention of the Angolan Armed Forces in combating domestic violence in all segments, mainly against the most vulnerable and disadvantaged children, who require greater attention, many of whom are abandoned by their own parents.

He warned of greater assurance, in coordination with the forces of the Ministry of the Interior, of the strategic infrastructures of the Central Region, which encompasses the provinces of Benguela, Bié, Cuanza Sul and Huambo (headquarters), with a focus on airports, the Railway, the Port of Lobito, the refinery under construction.

The vice-governor urged the staff to refrain from inappropriate use of social networks, as, despite playing an extremely important role in all geographic latitudes, uniting points, institutions and people, they have a virtual negative side which consists of the production of false profiles. that deserve the repudiation of all who are committed to the construction of a Homeland determined to rise again to its full development.

In turn, the second commander of the Central Military Region, Brigadier Sapalo Baptista, said that the Army, along with other defense and security bodies, has unequivocally been one of the bulwarks of the hard-won achievements, fulfilling with vulgar patriotism, discipline, organization and rigor, the missions emanated from above.

Army Day was institutionalized in 1991, as a result of the Bicesse agreements, signed in Portugal, on May 31 of the same year, between the Government of Angola and UNITA (then armed movement). This branch, made up of land forces, has the mission of defending the integrity of the national territory and is the one with the largest number of personnel.
