Africa-Press – Angola. The Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa, addressed, this Thursday, with representatives of African associations of women in geosciences issues related to the strengthening of cooperation between the countries of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), with emphasis on gender empowerment in the mines.
At the end of the audience, the representative of the SADC Women’s Association for Mines, Namesto Ntsosa-Carr, announced the intention of creating a federation at the regional level to bring together associations of miners.
On the occasion, the Secretary of State for Science, Technology and Innovation, Alice de Ceita e Almeida, defended the need for professionals in the area to be equipped with up-to-date knowledge on new technologies.
She encouraged women geoscientists, from different fields of activity, to continue with commitment in this field, with innovative practices that have a direct impact on society.
On her turn, the president of the African Association of Women in Geosciences, Errami Ezzouva, highlighted the importance of the meeting, noting that it served to review aspects related to women’s empowerment in geosciences.
Also received by the Vice-President of the Republic was the president of the African Association of Women in Geosciences in Angola, Esperança dos Santos.
Angola hosts, from the 26th to the 29th of this month, the 10th International Conference of the African Association of Women in Geosciences, with the presence of different national and foreign entities.
The event aims to improve the scientific and social inclusion of women, attracting them to careers in the geosciences, so that the implementation of global programs such as the “Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development”, “Paris Agreement on Climate Change” and “Agenda 2063 – The Africa We Want”.
