Africa-Press – Angola. The homage of the writers José Eduardo Agualusa, Pepetela, Ondjaki, Filipe Olímpio, Atanagildo Paulo and Augusto Roque Sapengo, for their achievements in Angolan literature, marked, this Saturday, in Huambo, the closing of the 1st national fair “Angola Lê”.

The event, which opened on Thursday, in the courtyard of the Huambo Provincial Library, under the motto “Rescuing the values of reading in Angolan society”, was attended by 142 exhibitors from across the country, who exhibited close to five thousand books, from novels, academic and scientific by national and foreign writers.

On the occasion, the organizer of the fair, Nituecheni Africano, said that, although some writers were not present, the homage aimed to encourage them not to stop publishing literary works in favor of the well-being of Angolan culture.

He referred that the tribute, through the exhibition, declamation of poetry in various lyrical genres, recitals and composition of live music around his books, is justified taking into account his contribution to the appreciation and growth of national literature.

He considered the event positive, mainly due to the interest of readers in the exhibited works, which in a way encourages exhibitors, as it is the first edition.

The fair aimed, among other objectives, to contribute to the recovery of the reading habits of the Angolan population, which, in recent times, has been lost.

At the fair, with the participation of the country’s 18 provinces, literary works by several Angolan writers were exhibited, such as those by Lopito Feijó, José Luís Mendonça, Aníbal Simões, Lucas Cassule and other national and foreign ones.
