Africa-Press – Angola. A young woman, who appears to be 35 years old, whose identity is unknown, drowned this weekend in a lagoon in Praia do Bebé commune, in Catumbela municipality, Benguela province.
The case of the death of this young woman, to be clarified, occurred in a dangerous lagoon and known by many popular people in Praia do Bebé, who, despite this, continue to ignore the warnings of the Fire Department regarding the risk of drowning in the area.
According to fire inspector Jorge David, spokesman for the Benguela Provincial Command of the Civil Protection and Fire Service, the authorities are investigating the circumstances of this incident, however it is not the first occurrence in the same lagoon.
He also reported on a second case of death by drowning, in which a 24-year-old young man was the victim, on Caota beach, in the municipality of Benguela.
Jorge David appeals to the population to avoid bathing on beaches where there is frequent fishing activity, as, in addition to the risk of drowning, there are hidden sharp objects, which compromises the safety of bathers.
It also reported an accident that occurred on National Road 250, in the municipality of Bocoio, which boils down to the skidding and overturning of a heavy vehicle, resulting in serious injuries to a 27-year-old citizen.
In terms of fires, there was an occurrence in the Alto Esperança neighbourhood, in the municipality of Lobito, affecting a private residence, with a presumed fire set by the brother of the owner of the house.
According to the source, this fire caused material damage estimated at 997,000 kwanzas, as a result of the destruction of the residence’s furniture and appliances.
