Africa-Press – Botswana. Founder of MmeMma Women of Excellence, Phio Pule, has released her organisation’s debut publication titled MmeMma: A Parenting Empowerment Bundle, a book aimed at empowering families through intentional value-based parenting.
In an interview, Pule described the book as a heartfelt project rooted in Christian faith and Setswana cultural wisdom. The book, she said, was designed to offer practical guidance and spiritual encouragement to parents and guardians navigating the complexities of raising children in today’s world.
“MmeMma Women of Excellence is a women empowerment initiative that envisions strong families built on the foundation of empowered women,” Pule stated.
Driven by that mission, Pule said the organisation saw the need to extend its message beyond workshops and community dialogues by writing a book.
“This book is an extension of our voice to reach women both locally and internationally, as we believe parenting is a powerful tool that can transform families and, by extension, the nation,” she said.
A teacher by profession and mother of three, Pule emphasised that the book also spoke to the pressing social issues affecting families today, drawing on Christian principles and the richness of Setswana traditions.
She further stated that one of the standout chapters, the support system, explored the Setswana proverb ‘Ngwana ke kgomo ya motlhakanelwa’ loosely translated to ‘a child is a shared responsibility’ advocated for stronger communal and extended family structures to support parents and reduce stress-related challenges that come with raising children in isolation. While the book offers advice, Pule was transparent about the fact that she wrote from experience, not expertise.
“Writing this book does not mean I have mastered parenting, in fact, I am learning with every step I take as a parent and it has been a humbling journey,” she said.
She also had words of encouragement for aspiring authors, especially those looking to write with purpose.
“Writing is a calling as it requires a love for reading, a clear understanding of your audience, an inspiration from God and with thoughtful preparation, writing can even become a powerful tool for economic empowerment and cultural exchange,” she said.
With MmeMma: A Parenting Empowerment Bundle, Pule hopes to spark meaningful conversations about parenting in Botswana and beyond, reminding readers that family remains the foundation of every strong nation.
