Africa-Press – Botswana. Khoemacau Copper Mine has recognised a group of employees who have dedicated years of hard work, unwavering commitment and invaluable contribution to the success of the mine.

The mine honoured 28 long service employees who have demonstrated exceptional loyalty with monetary prizes and among them 26 who have worked for five years got P5 000 each and two have reached the significant milestone of 10 years and walked away with P12, 000 each.

Speaking during the awards ceremony held at Zone 5 Camp over the weekend, the mine’s director of operations, Mr Weiquan Xia, said the awards symbolised the company’s commitment to acknowledging the dedication and contribution of employees who were the cornerstone of its success.

He said the mine recognised commitment, mutual respect, progress and teamwork noting that it was all about the strength that lies in the collective talents, perspectives, and experiences of its people.

“We are also celebrating our safety champions who have set an outstanding example by prioritising safety and embodying our company’s core value of ‘thinking safety first’.

“Thank you for leading by example and inspiring us all to stay vigilant and committed to safe practices every day,” he added.

Mr Xia further noted that one of the key areas that required focus was increasing the number of female workers in Khoemacau noting that currently female employees stood at 16.8 percent of the workforce.

He said the mine would intensify recruitment of female employees because they could not speak about building a sustainable future without addressing the importance of gender equity and creating opportunities for women to participate and progress.

Mr Xia said another cornerstone of the mine’s success was the transfer of skills and knowledge between their parent company and local operations.

Director for people and communications, Ms Mmama Mhlanga-Fichani, emphasised that they are recognising a group of employees whose contributions were equally critical to the company’s success indicating that the individuals had demonstrated exceptional leadership in prioritising safety, ensuring that each of the employees could perform their work in an environment where safety was never compromised.

“The safety champion awards are a reflection of the dedication, responsibility, and leadership that these employees have shown. They have made safety a priority in their daily work and have set an example for all of us to follow,” she stated.
